Uprise: Amsterdam startups offer 185 jobs

The Dutch startup scene today gathered in Amsterdam for Uprise, the first startup jobs market in the country. 3500 startup-minded visitors came to creative hotspot Roest for workshops, food, drinks, mingling and a ‘festival’ including 77 startups showcasing 185 jobs.

Utrecht, Rotterdam, Delft, practically every ‘self-respecting’ entrepreneurial city was represented at this Amsterdam party. “We are very happy to see so many attendants”, says Wouter Glaser, founder of startup Glasnost Communications and responsible for the PR of the event.

The small main stage at the event is reserved for some product launches and startup announcements. Amongst this, and most interestingly, the news of algorithm company Dashmote raising 450k euros of seed financing.

Talking to the startups at the event, Uprise seems to be a meeting spot of the like-minded. Graffiti paint, wooden pallets, DJ’s and coffee-tuk tuks create the vibrant atmosphere of a place to be.

“Uprise is the first event of this kind in The Netherlands, and gives us a great opportunity to connect with the startup community in Amsterdam “, says Prabhath Sirisena from software startup Hiveage that has branches in the US and Asia.

Sirisena would like to expand to Europe and sees Amsterdam as a good starting point. “The friendly business environment makes establishing a startup in the Netherlands easy, it’s the ideal place to reach out to the rest of Europe”, he says.

Jobs
Whether we have enough employees with the right skills however remains to be seen. Most startups offer jobs that require technical skills such as front-end developers, software engineers, and PHP or Symfony2 developers.

“We haven’t really met anyone with the right CV yet”, says Hans Ober from Ticketswap. Althoug there seem to be many interested visitors, there are no lines of people offering their resumes. “Most people are orientating”, says Ally van der Boon from Fuelup. “Some of them have just graduated.”
