Football-data startup Metrica Sports raises €100k

Amsterdam based football-data startup Metrica Sports just announced the closing of a funding round of 100.000 euros from a private investor.

Argentinean founders Bruno Dagnino, Enzo Angilletta and Ruben Saavedra (Spain) hope to further expand their team and validate the market fit of their service. “We want to keep on developing our product”, says Dagnino.

Metrica Sports helps football coaches to analyze their team’s performance and communicate with their players. “We provide a platform that integrates video and data analysis for coaches to automatically identify the flaws in a match”, says Dagnino. “Because the results are also visualized, it is easier for coaches to explain.”

Villareal and Vitesse

Metrica Sports was founded in 2014 and joined the growth programme of ACE Venture Lab. Both founders are PhD candidates in neuroscience at the Free University (VU) of Amsterdam. “We met whilst studying in Amsterdam, and have been playing football together ever since.”

Before actually founding their company, the founders developed a minimum viable product (MVP). “This gave us the opportunity to present ourselves at different football clubs.”

In February 2014 a demo was carried out in cooperation with Dutch club Vitesse. FC Villarreal (Spanish first division) was the first paying customer in August that year. The startup is now working with new clubs for the next season.
