Superbuddy closes angel investment round and gets matching VC money

Groceries delivery startup Superbuddy this week closed its latest funding campaign on Leapfunder, raising 102.500 euro. Regional VC PPM Oost will match the investment in the current angel investment campaign, up to an undisclosed amount.

If needed PPM Oost will also match future rounds on Leapfunder. The exact amount is known by the editorial team of StartupJuncture.

Superbuddy, based in Zwolle, is an on demand 2-hour delivery service. Personal shoppers, so called ‘buddies’, will do the groceries for you, delivering it at a time of your choice.

Superbuddy is an advocate of the social aspect of deliveries: people can choose their favourite buddy, thus creating a more trustworthy transaction. The service is mainly used by families and young professionals, but notably used by care workers (‘mantelzorgers’) as well – knowing the person they take care for is in good hands.

With the funding the startup expands to Utrecht. The company chose this city because of its central location in The Netherlands. “It’s also the most active city in online grocery orders. And of course it’s a gateway to the rest of the Randstad“, said Tim van den Heuvel, lead growth at Superbuddy.

With the expansion to Utrecht, Superbuddy enters the Picnic territory (geographically speaking). That startup is now active in the triangle Amersfoort-Utrecht-Almere. Picnic is an online grocery with one central distribution point and offers free delivery, but does not have same day-delivery.

According to Van den Heuvel, the market is big enough for multiple players in this field of business.
