The Dutch consulate General and DutchBasecamp are inviting startups to join a bootcamp and business trip to Cape Town. Participants can choose between the long (10 day) and short (5 day) program. All startups will be present at the Innovation Summit (6-8 Sep), Africa’s premier entrepreneurial conference.
Africa is probably not the easiest place to do business, but it does offer growth opportunities. The African continent is home to 7 of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world and is experiencing an enormous economic surge. The Dutch consulate general in Cape Town believes that this does offer many opportunities for certain startups. They are willing to help entrepreneurs navigate this huge continent. We are reluctant to recommend Africa to beginning entrepreneurs, but should you go: we would be happy to hear your experience!
More information
The official deadline for application has passed, but they are still looking for startups in FinTech, AgriTech, BlueTech (something with water, we presume), EduTech and Smart Cities. The program itself is funded by the organisers, startups pay only for travel and accommodation. More information on this initiative can be found at the Cocreate2Accelerate website, at DutchBasecamp and also at the innovation Summit website. There is also this white paper on South Africa’s entrepreneurial system.
